About Us

The Charlton Abbott is named after not only the original trading post that was in the Willoughby area, but Paul Abbott, who explored the Ohio Delta area long before it was Willoughby. Part of the city’s history and legacy are important buildings, and The Charlton Abbott is one of them.

The Charlton Abbott Building is named after the original trading post that was in Fulton and known as The Charlton back in the 1790s.

It was the first name to Willoughby before it became Willoughby. Paul Abbott was the person who, in essence, founded the area, which was known as the Ohio Delta and now known as Willoughby. The trading posts at the time were for food, directions, and any goods for business services.

The Victorian home was built in 1858 by Stephen and Rebecca Warrallo. It was eventually sold to Mayor John Jordan, for whom Jordan Drive is named. The Warrollo house was converted to business use, but the old horse barn (one of the oldest in Lake County), at the rear of the property has been preserved.

2023 Showcase Award

The Charlton Abbott, recognized by the Willoughby Western Lake County Chamber of Commerce for its design, has been acquired by Ken and Lisa Boyd. The Victorian building, situated at 37903 Euclid Ave., underwent a seamless integration of historic restoration and modern technologies. Ken and Lisa Boyd aim to offer professional services to community-based businesses in Willoughby.

The building will feature offices available for rent, conference rooms, event planning spaces, and outdoor gardens. Additionally, it will serve as a hub for mail, printing, and shipping services. Boyd envisions The Charlton Abbott as a comprehensive solution for businesses, emphasizing its adaptability to the evolving needs of service industries that may not require a fixed location. He envisions the establishment mirroring its role from 200 years ago, functioning as a community hub for information and networking. Beyond professional business use, The Charlton Abbott aims to host various special events, including fundraisers, reunions, birthdays, showers, rehearsal dinners, small weddings, pop-up markets, and artist nights.
